A DVDR is a data storage device where data can be stored or written only once. Data stored cannot re-write or changed on DVDR. There are both single sided and double sided DVDRs available in the market today. It stores more of data when compared to CDR.It can store up to 4.71 GB of data when compared to CDR which can store only 700MB of data. Double disc of the same can store 8.75GB of data.

The most commonly used are cases include jewel cases. A single disc capacity consists of two flaps and a plastic tray. The two flaps are hinged together to form the casing and the back half hold the media tray that grips the disc through its hole. The two flaps have a snap-shut lock function. This is used for securing the disk. The center of the tray contains a circular hub shaped like teeth which grips the disc by its whole. This is designed so that the disc in container for preventing the recording surface from being scratched.

Another type of DVD cases is clamshell cases. These are made from high quality and durable plastic material. This type has a unique design with a square side for proper storage and handling. They are also the cheapest type of DVD storage available in the market. The only problem is that Clamshell cases have thin hinges that joins the two panel hubs which could disintegrate after repetitive usage. This makes it unusable after the two flaps have completely separated.
